Hylands Estate Open Day

Sun 15th October 2023 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

- Free
An aerial photo of Hylands House with Urban Food Fest taking place outside.

This month, we’re embracing the theme ‘People who worked at Hylands’ which you will be able to read more about in our social history exhibition in the Library.

Visit the Banqueting Room to see who currently works at Hylands Estate, as our resident artists and designers will be exhibiting their work #MadeAtHylands.

In the small dining room next to the Banqueting Room, you’ll be able to meet people who volunteer at Hylands, including members of the Friends of Hylands House and the parks team.

Mike Dodsworth is back with his popular storytelling sessions at 10:30am 11:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm in the Drawing Room. We’ll also be joined by local author Angela Cairns who will be talking about her new book A Song for Kitty, as well as Lady Gooch and the changing roles of women in the pre WW1 years.

In the meantime in the Terrace Room, we’re feeling spooky with some Halloween arts and crafts! Make your own witch’s hat or Frankenstein’s monster head, as well as pumpkin crowns.

We also have our new Hylands Estate Activity Sheet for you to pick up and take around the Estate to learn more about our history. Pick these up for free from the Entrance Hall welcome desk.

If you are coming down for a tour of Hylands House with one of our volunteers, don’t forget, this starts at 10am!

The Stables, home to a vibrant community of artists, designers, and makers, will be open for exploring and live music will be on throughout the day in the courtyard. Discover unique handmade pieces available to purchase, or get creative yourself and book one of our experiences or workshops.

Live music will be playing at The Stables throughout the day, thanks to Hot Box Live.

Be sure to come hungry, as Urban Food Fest will be joining us with delicious street food available just outside the house. There will also be handmade gifts and freshly baked goods for sale from local traders.

Hawthorn Heavy Horses will be providing estate carriage tours throughout the day to enjoy a short ride around Hylands.  Find out more on the Hawthorn Heavy Horses website.
